Bold statement outfits!!

Especially love the colours this girl is wearing, she looks hip hop at the same time as maintaining her chic style.

Interesting accessories to enhance your features.

Brightly coloured accessories to compliment your brightly coloured skirt.

Absoloutely love this couple. Talk about making a statement.. those shoes are amazing. Very Japanese inspired, would love to know her clothing inspiration.

10 DAYS IN PARIS

Days  1-7

Day 1:

Catching the night bus to Paris was ... eventful, to say the least. Sleeping on the bus was almost impossible but I enjoyed driving through belbium, which I have never been to, and seeing how dead it was, was actually surprising. But maybe during the day it is more lively.
So we arrived in Paris an hour early, and travelled to the area of where we were staying, where we sat for a coffee before collecting the keys to our apartment.
The apartment is very cosy, especially for 6 people, and now 7 because another girl moved into our apartment.
We met with one of our teachers who showed us the city, and took us to some stores around Paris which was interesting.
We also visited the Exhibition of Pharrell Williams which I really enjoyed, especially to see some work from my favourite Fine Artist TRACEY EMIN. It was just one piece, the words in luminous lighting saying "Wanting You". It was descreet, which is not so Emin, but I really like her work and it was nice to see it.

Another piece I especially enjoyed was this image- the artist has a sense of humour and uses it well:

Day 2:

COINCIDENCE- This concept is just.... AMAZING. The upstairs is restored african art that the couple have collected and restored and are selling. and the downstairs is Fashion. The guy works with the fashion, and the pieces are really interesting, but quite simple, and very wearable. They also have restored vintage designer clothing from Helmut Lang and some other designers.

BROKEN ARM- The newest concept store we visited. Very conceptual, young and chic. The store has so much energy, and sells almost everything to do with fashion, books, magazines, clothes, shoes, accessories and even has a coffee shop next door.

BLESS- Bless has a strange but interesting and inspiring concept. they design things they need or want which don't really have a purpose. For example their most famous piece is a hair which has real hair growing out of the brush, it is impossible to use as a brush and has absolutely no purpose at all, it's more of an ornament and something that none has.
I found this concept store really fun, and it made me realise that the more you concentrate on just fashion, the less creative you can be with your collections. They really concentrate on their art, and then their fashion comes, and it is just so much more experimental and fun, but still it is wearable.

Day 3:

We visited the Pompidou.. despite being afraid of heights, I really enjoyed the galleries. A few of the artists work I like were.....

The last one really inspired me, because of the collection I am doing at the moment, and I'm always really interested when people use human features in art work, it makes it so much more interesting. I'd like to use eyes within my collection, so this piece really inspired me. It was called, the never-ending face.
And then the others I like purely because I quite like trippy artwork. And of course the first one Jackson Pollock, because he is just amazing in every way shape and form. So neurotic but so controlled!! JUST LIKE ME <3

Day 4:

PALAIS DE TOKYO. The weirdest experience ever.. but the art was amazingly cool!! And there was a short fashion show, I think from a school. the clothing was made from matchsticks, it was really clever! I will upload photos when I have downloaded them all when I get home.

We also visited a store with a very different type of concept, the name is Créve Couer. The guy buys or collects or finds any type of clothing which has a meaning, so usually from other countries, from war etc. He then dyes the clothing with usually red, blue or black dye, and places ten at different locations around the world at different heights, anything from up in the sky to underground, and he sees hows the sun naturally bleaches the dye. The concept is very cool, however maybe for such a sustainable brand it would be nice to experiment with natural dyes. Though we did actually raise this question and he said that the natural dye takes much longer to fade away, so from this point of view I can understand why he doesn't use this natural dying process.

Day 5:

La Bon Marché and department stores. We had a few assignments and it was an average day. We learnt a lot about collections.
My most favourite garment i saw. MARCO DE VINCENZO.

We also drank under the Eiffel tower at night and it looked so pretty!!

Day 6:

Dries Van Noten exhibition. OH MY. HELLOOOOO!! Was amazing! I really thought he was like a dead and gone designer, but actually the fashion was so intricate and detailed it was amazing to see. There was a video about that he gave some caterpillars some gold and they made cocoons out of the gold, it was just so amazing to see something so delicate made from an insect which had been given these objects to make his natural cocoon out of.
The collections in the exhibition really inspired me and i think I will experiment with some ideas i have got since seeing this.

Day 7:

Standing outside the Valentino show praying there is a God to let us in.. of course we knew there was almost not a hope in hell to let us in, however we still clung to the hopeful words of the security guard "I don't think so", she said, after we asked if there would be space to possible squeeze us in at the back. However, we waited, and waited, watching the countless amount of famous people pouring in.

Nevertheless, the atmosphere was great and being surrounded by bloggers, other fashion students and press was an experience I really enjoyed.

Honours programme.

After submitting my Atelier project half way through, I was selected for an interview for the honours programme which something that my school does for the best selected students of the year.

MASSIVE CONFIDENCE BOOST- Actually just what i needed after really feeling defeated after my burberry collection which i didn't think was bad at all, and I didn't feel that my feedback reflected my grade... OH WELL.. life goes on and hopefully this is more up my street.. rather than 'street wear' - excuse the pun.

Being on the honours programme means working throughout summer, this is so that we can develop our own 'design handwriting' as my school calls it. I'm not too worried about working over summer, I think it will be stressful of course, but fun at the same time :)

At the moment we are about 5 weeks into the programme. We have had 1 check to show our tutors our work and just to see how we are getting on. this went okay, though it did seem that everything i had previously been told was kind of out the window and it only mattered what they thought on the day, but thats kind of how it goes in the real world, so gonna have to get used to it ;)

I will try and upload some of my toile ideas within the next few days, am busy as always but I'm enjoying always having something to do.

Mums birthday in 6 days, and I'm going home to surprise her, can't wait! <3

Monday 24 March 2014

Tryptych out the way... now to start with Atelier!

Atelier is all about using a crafts technique and developing it onto a garment.

My chosen technique is Satin stitch!

My concept is all about looking how we use synthetic products to enhance our natural features. And I want to include the merge between the two with a garment so that it is not noticeable what is 3D and what is print.

"Merging real and fake, the collection blurs the vision between the two, leaving the viewer to distinguish the natural and the unnatural for themselves."

FIRST TOILE:

TRYPTYCH COLLECTION:

ONTO THE NEXT ONE.... TRYPTYCH (fastest 3 weeks of my life!)

A day in between and not a minute to spare! We were off on our research for the next project (Tryptych) which is a group of designers, branders and managers who come together to form collection and a 3D installation for the show.

I really enjoyed this project, some people worked well and others didn't but you just have to get on with things.

We had Flevoland as our chosen area and the Cities we visited were Emerloord, Almere and Lelystad. Not the most interesting of cities as you'll know if you've visited them! But we made the most of it and really focussed on the positive sides of these cities, such as that they were eerie yet mysterious, the population was scarce but of a young age group so it had room for development. And, although there was not a great deal of colour, there still was colour, and used this in out garments by toning down so the colours were more pastel.

Colour palette:

The concept was to involve the 5 senses within the installation and the garments this is because when we arrived at the cities you really engaged yourself with your senses as you had to listen out for things, and look around. We used this in the clothing by installing a digital device that we could install our own sound to so when the wearer or a viewer of the garment touched the wire and the clothing, it would create a full circuit and therefore create a sound. This was a great idea, had we not have been situated right next to the speakers! Ah well.... the teachers like it none-the-less!

Within the installation we had a big 'wrecking ball' .. i guess you could call it, with would be made from rubber gloves and invite the viewers to feel it as the gloves were stuffed with different things such as jelly and stuffing. Another wall was made from glow in the dark puffy ink and this was also inviting to touch for the viewers. You get the gist, we wanted our viewers to engage their senses within the installation.

And here it is!

For the Logo we decided on the name "TONE" as it was about sound, and we were keen on the name having only 1 syllable because it is short snappy and to the point.
Various Logo's were made in order to decide on one..

BUSINESS CARDS!!! We had to make business cards as we worked as a small business to try and sell our brand to the 15+ tutors who would potentially invest in the business..

As well as advertising ourselves through word of mouth, also wanted to create an online presence...

And of course advertising the show to get people to come and see our hard work in the small 3 weeks we had to do this project in!

The collection for Burberry clash:

I really had to work at this because sporty street wear was new to me. I tried to bring in shapes and functionality into the clothing in order to make it not look boring... however, looking back on it now, there are definitely changes I would do in order to make it better!

I really learnt my strengths and weaknesses from this project

1: I need to work on developing a 3d idea into a 2D drawing
2: I work much better within a group than on my own
3: I need to think outside the box with street wear and not be worried about being too over top as I can always tone it down!!

THINGS TO WORK ON :D
